Cultured pearl varieties

Akoya cultured pearls are nucleated saltwater pearls cultivated in the
Akoya oyster. They are predominately found in Japan, Korea and China.
The majority of Akoya pearls are round in shape, generally 2mm – 9mm
in diameter and have primary base colours of white, cream or yellow
often with a greenish or grey overtone.

The South Sea cultured pearl (White or Black) Of all the pearls across the globe, there is one that is rare and revered. In pristine waters where the temperature is gentle and the atmosphere nurturing. There is a pearl with a strange perfection which bears the fingerprints of forever, the South Seas. The South Sea pearl is a labour of love, spending two silent years within the host oyster shell – the Pinctada maxima (commonly known as the white/silver or yellow/gold lip) or Pinctada margarita ( commonly known as the black lip). The breathtaking gift that delivered into our world is well worth the wait.

White pearls

The White South Sea cultured pearl is recognised as the “Queen of Pearls”. This pearl is cultivated within the largest of all mollusc species Pinctada Maxima . The pearl beds are mainly in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The white-lipped South Sea pearls are normally pink, white, silver and blue, while the yellow-lipped variety grows pearls from cream to yellow, including champagne and gold. They range in size from 9mm to 18mm in size.

Black pearls

Black South Sea pearls are cultured using the black-lip oyster (Pinctada Margaritifera), a variety of mollusc indigenous to the lagoons and atolls of French Polynesia. These are commonly referred to as “Tahitian Black Pearls”.The iridescent colours of the pearls range from gold through green to aubergine or purple to dark hues including jet black. The most common shapes are off-round, oval, baroque and semi-baroque and the sizes range from 9mm to 13mm.
